It is a synthetic fabric tape that has been impregnated with a neutral petrolatum based compound designed to isolate metal surfaces to protect against corrosion, salt water, road salt/ice melt etc. Petro tape will not harden, crack or peel away and is excellent at resisting acids, alkalis, and salts.
